The Project MUSEUMAC Network– Museum Network in Madeira, the Azores and the Canaries, sets out to design a network of museums in Macaronesia, so as to create a unit between the participating regions to enhance an inter-regional museum network which seeks to bring together cultural realities with their own specific aspects, in this case, the realities of the islands.

To make this feasible, the project will take place in a partnership/network so as to benefit the exchange and sharing of knowledge between the partners – Madeira as the Head of the Pack, the Azores, Gran Canária and Tenerife – seeking to implement a common methodology for carrying out activities, thus seeking the sharing of knowledge between them, the greater attraction of flows of visitors, as well as getting people to enjoy and get to know the island museological heritage.

With a duration of eighteen months, the Project has the following main challenges:
• It is seeking to promote and disseminate museums and their collections – MUSEUMAC Network by creating a site for disseminating and launching virtual exhibitions, using modern and up-to-date language;

• Creation of a graphic unit to be included in merchandising products and on all the materials produced (catalogues, brochures, inter alia), for the promotion, dissemination and communication of the MUSEUMAC Network.

• Attraction of different publics, including State schools, abroad and, in particular, the handicapped, affording new, renewed ways of knowing the island heritage;

• Dynamisation of the Museum space and organising events and interchanges, counting on the staging of exhibitions, conferences and workshops, also highlighting the organisation and dynamisation of the “Museum Month”.

The MUSEUMAC Project thus represents a mediator and catalyst for the synergies between the cultural entities whose mission is to safeguard, conserve and promote heritage, with the ultimate objective of expanding cultural borders, enhancing and respecting the collective memory and the identity of each people stated in the museological know-how of the islands.
